Powertrains Strategy in Iran
Increases in oil prices, the depletion of fossil fuel resources and the tightening of emissions regulations have driven the automobile industry towards developing alternative fueled vehicles. Among these alternatives, CNG represents one of the most practical solutions. The main reason is the huge gas resources in Iran, but pundits primarily point to the lack of need to implement major changes in available power train technology combined with the abundant availability of natural gas resources worldwide. Current trends reflect increasing demand for CNG powered vehicles, much the same as what was experienced with diesel powered vehicles in the 1990's, leading many to believe that significant growth lies ahead.
With over a decade of experienced in the development of CNG power trains, IPCO has emerged as one of the most experienced companies in this field. The combination of experience backed by world class, state of the art facilities provides unique "one stop" solution for all your CNG power train requirements. Our practical and effective solutions can serve to erase any negative images and customer resistance that may exist vis a vis CNG powered vehicles, and instead can promote the practical benefits that belie such vehicles. The products that we have developed for our clientele, all of which have successfully entered into mass production, provide first hand testimony not only to the durability and drivability of the vehicles that we have developed, but also to their reduced emissions and increased fuel saving.
It is within this context that our experience combined with practical and cost effective solutions can be rendered to you for both your mass market and niche applications.
Turbo CNG
Solution for CO2 Challenges
Turbocharged CNG Engine Advantages:
• Turbocharger prevents any power loss on CNG operation in compare to Gasoline operation.
• Low fuel costs and high fuel efficiency.
• Lower CO2 emission than gasoline engine and comparable diesel engine.
• Best approach in the direction of downsizing by increasing the resistance against knocking.
• Low particulate, NOx and CO emission
• High durability and stability on CNG
Iran National Engine Family (EF7)
EF7 project has been started at Irankhodro power-train company (IPCO) in 2004. The achievement of project was the high technology Bi-fuel engine family with brand of Islamic republic of Iran for the local market and export.
- The basic target of this project is to have an engine family whose design is based on CNG for class B to E cars made in Iran, using the most from local suppliers with world level quality.
- 1.7 NA engine of this engine family features 16 valves with CVVT (Continuous Variable Valve Timing).

EF7 CNG based fuel national engine family specifications
- CVVT mechanism in order to achieve optimized performance
- External oil module and high efficiency of oil pump
- Low NVH with upper and lower ladder frame
- Separate fuel rail system for CNG and Gasoline
- One integrated ECU unit for electronic management system
300 Km mileage, only with 1 CNG storage tank
Project Approach
- The first engine with Iranian brand name
- Brand proprietorship of engines for class B to E Vehicles
- Design for using CNG as governmental policies requirement
- Helping local suppliers to enter international market
- Technology transfer
- Team work experience from design to production and using concurrent engineering
- Full proprietorship of SAMAND car with local engine for local and international market
- Common machining lines for main parts like block and cylinder head
- Using assembly lines with minimum changes for each engine of family
National engine family has been designed to use CNG and gasoline is considered as the second fuel.
